桜前線が北上し桜の見頃を終えた関東ですが、箱根・芦ノ湖では湖畔に咲く一本桜が満開を迎えました。
The cherry blossom front has moved northward and the cherry blossom viewing season has ended in the Kanto region, but in Hakone and Lake Ashinoko, lone cherry trees along the lakeside are now in full bloom. 　
芦ノ湖の湖畔にある箱根園にそびえる一本の桜、高さ12メートル、樹齢はおよそ100年を誇る大島桜です。
This Oshima cherry tree is 12 meters tall and about 100 years old in Hakone Garden on the shore of Lake Ashi.
富士山のように白い花を広げる姿から「湖畔の一本桜」と呼ばれ、芦ノ湖の春を彩る桜として人気があります。
It is called “Single Cherry Blossom by the Lake” because the white flowers spread out like Mount Fuji and is widely known as the cherry blossom that decorates spring in Lake Ashi.
「突然フェリーから降りて発見したものですから、感動しています。春がやっときましたね、と思いながら楽しんでいます」
“I was very touched because I suddenly got off the ferry and found this scene. I'm enjoying myself and thinking that spring has finally come."
例年、都心からひと月ほど遅れて見頃を迎えますが、訪れた人たちは都会では散ってしまったソメイヨシノを懐かしむかのようにひと足遅い桜の便りを楽しんでいました。
The best time to see cherry blossoms is about 1 month later than the city center, but tourists enjoy the late arrival of cherry blossoms, as if nostalgia for the Yoshino cherry trees has disappeared in the city.
湖畔の一本桜は今週末まで楽しめるということです。
You can see the lone cherry tree on the lakeside until this weekend.
